Gluten Free Grocery List + Guide

Starting a gluten-free lifestyle can be one of the most intimidating tasks ever. Whether for health or personal reasons, it’s challenging to figure out where exactly to begin. But I can tell you from my own experience that it gets so much easier. Navigating your way through those first few months is the hardest, but it eventually becomes second nature.

While you might not expect it, my gluten intolerance has completely reinvigorated my love and appreciation for food. I could spend my life savings at the grocery store, easily. It’s always such a huge win to walk down the aisles and spot all of the “GF” labels.

This post has a complete guide to help you navigate the grocery store with ease. Which alternatives are the best, ingredients to avoid & more. Sharing my experience and knowledge with those of you on similar journeys has been extremely rewarding.

What is Gluten?

Gluten is a general name for the proteins found in wheat, rye, barley, and triticale. Gluten is often used as a binder to help foods maintain their shape. Wheat is commonly found in breads, baked goods, soups, pasta, cereals, sauces, salad dressings, roux. Barley is commonly found in beer, malt, food coloring, soups, Brewer’s Yeast. Rye is commonly found in rye bread, such as pumpernickel, rye beer, cereals.

My Grocery List

This is my complete kitchen restock grocery list. My favorite gluten free alternatives, snacks & staples that I always have in my fridge/pantry. After weeding through many great, and not so great gluten free products over the years, these are my personal favorites. I could have generalized this list, but I thought it more helpful to share my exact recommendations. Of course, make adjustments to your preferences.
